King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 202 motorists in Chester County will encounter lane and ramp restrictions next week to prepare for a traffic shift marking the completion of work on the northbound bridge and the start of work on the southbound bridge over Amtrak at the U.S. 30 Interchange in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
On Monday, July 9, through Thursday, July 12, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, and Friday, July 13, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM, northbound and southbound U.S. 202 will be reduced to a single lane between the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass and Boot Road interchanges as crews place and adjust construction barriers and perform line painting operations.
In addition, on Monday, July 9, through Wednesday, July 11, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, the ramp from northbound U.S. 202 to Business U.S. 30 and the ramp from U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202 will be closed during the work on U.S. 202.
Northbound U.S. 202 motorists heading for Business 30 will be directed to exit at the Route 401 (Conestoga Road) Interchange, then turn right onto Route 401 (Conestoga Road) to Business U.S. 30. U.S. 30/Exton Bypass motorists heading to northbound U.S. 202 will exit at Business U.S. 30 and turn right to access the ramp to northbound U.S. 202.
Motorists are advised that backups may occur at times approaching the work zone. All schedule activities are weather permitting.
By 10:00 AM Saturday, July 14, a new “express lane” traffic pattern will be in place for the start of rehabilitation on the southbound bridge over Amtrak. The new pattern will move the southbound left lane onto the northbound bridge, where it will be separated from two northbound lanes during repairs to the southbound bridge. The southbound right lane will remain on the southbound side while the bridge is rehabilitated a half-at-a-time.
The bridge repairs are being done as part of PennDOT’s $26.4 million project that also includes replacement of the concrete pavement on the ramps to and from U.S. 202 and U.S. 30/Exton Bypass, repairs to the Morstein Road bridge over U.S. 202, and replacement of a retaining wall at the southern end of the bridges adjacent to Dunwoody Drive beneath U.S. 202. The entire project is expected to be completed in fall 2019.
Allan A Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
